No means no: the principles of consent.

I wasn’t ever going to post this because it was written as a way to vent, and it feels intensely personal; but I have been strongly encouraged to share it…so here goes. 

When a girl says, “no sex without a condom,” trying to convince her otherwise is not only stupid but disrespectful. Penetrating her without a condom - therefore without her consent - is rape. Consent can have stipulations.

When a girl says, “no anal,” trying to convince her otherwise is annoying. Penetrating her in a manner she has not consented to is rape. Just because she has consented to one type of sexual interaction with you does not give you any sort of rights over her body. Consent is not universal.

When a girl says, “I don’t want to have sex with you anymore,” she does not owe you an explanation (perhaps it’s because you’re a fucking rapist, who knows). Trying to convince her to do it “one last time,” is pathetic and disrespectful. Persisting after repeatedly being turned down is creepy. Consent can be retracted at any time.

No does not mean convince me. NO MEANS NO. Just because we are both naked does not mean it’s too late to retract my consent. NO MEANS NO. Just because we’ve had sex before does not mean it’s too late to retract my consent. NO MEANS NO. I can change my mind at ANY TIME. NO MEANS NO. Can we just all fucking respect that?

It’s genuinely astonishing to me that we still have to have this conversation.
